Be Informed - Know every part of your business; in and out. Not just this, understand your competitors service; in and out. What do they do great? What do they have problem with? What failures have they overcome? Know "who's who" in your market. Know the history of your organization and the history of the industry that it's in.
This does not indicate that I believe everybody can or must be a leader. It does not imply that everyone desires to discover. I'm just specifying that if we have someone who is open to learning, then there is a distinct possibility they can develop good management abilities. This is asserted on those individuals' understanding that learning is ongoing which they will find lessons all over.
